Cheese Shop in the Long Island Wine Country

Monday, March 8th, 2010

When thinking about the wine of North Fork of Long Island, also remember to think about cheese.  One of the favorite cheese shops on the North Fork of Long Island is the Village Cheese Shop in Mattituck.  The choices are amazing and with over 100 cheeses to choose from, it may take a little time to make your decision and they will be sure to assist you along the way.

The Village Cheese Shop was opened in 2001 and they feature cheese categories including French, Italian, American, Spanish, Dutch, English, and Swiss.  Then, there are multiple cheese options under each category.  Take it a step further and you can order sampler plates or cheese fondue which is served in a crock pot with chunks of crusty bread for dipping.  Yum!  I think that I have died and gone to cheese heaven!

One of the most popular cheese plates, the Twin Forks, includes Atlantic Mist, soft ripened cows’ milk cheese, and honey lavender goat cheese.  The plate includes fruit, chutney, and bread toasts.  Everything you need for a romantic picnic or sit down and enjoy it at the shop.

Here’s to the wine country’s cheese shop!

Noah’s Restaurant Opens in Greenport, Long Island

Thursday, January 28th, 2010

Noah Schwartz, former chef at the Seafood Barge in Southhold, has opened a new restaurant in Greenport, Long Island.  The restaurant is at the former location of the Frisky Oyster Bar on Front Street and is called Noah’s.  As the Seafood Barge could not renew their lease, Noah quickly scouted the area and found that this location would be perfect for him.  Renovations were underway and now Noah’s is officially open.

Noah is a native long islander and a graduate of New England Culinary School and worked for over seven years in California’s wine country.  He has experience in opening restaurants and this one is very special to him, as it is his own.  Noah will be bring to Noah’s a culinary experience enjoyed in California and he is already receiving positive feedback from his customers.  Recent reviews had customers raving about the scallop ceviche and pomegranate ribs.

The concept at Noah’s is to offer “small plates” at the top of his menu ranging from $6 to $15.  Thus, allowing his guests to sample multiple smaller plates and enjoying a variety of dishes.  The menu also features 2-3 oz. wine pours to accompany the small plates.  Of course, to balance this he will also have snacks on the menu beginning at $3.  Truly a delightful way to dine!
